How Live Shopping saved Room101 from closing shop

Room101, a Swedish interior retail store, was founded in 2021 by Sara Ghannad. With a passion for helping customers find the perfect home decor, ROOM101 sells minimalistic, Scandi-chic home decor across Sweden. A true story of rebirth, this retail startup went from almost shutting down to hockey-stick growth - all thanks to Live Shopping with Sprii!  

THE OBJECTIVE

To create a viable revenue stream to sustain the business

Room101 initially started as a brick-and-mortar shop in the quaint little Swedish town of Lund. 

"We opened an interior boutique a couple of years ago but we weren’t making any money, and we were about to close the shop”, explains Sara Ghannad, founder of Room101. “But then a friend of mine asked whether we’d tried Live Shopping yet, and highly recommended Sprii. At the time, we didn’t even know what Live Shopping was”, she adds. 

Curious to learn more, Sara looked at our website, watched a few shows from other customers, and decided to try Live Shopping. “What do we have to lose?” she thought, as the company was on the brink of shutting down. 

In the summer of 2022, Room101 ran their first Live Shopping show. “In under an hour, we sold 2X what we sell on an average day in our physical store!”, exclaims Sara. Seeing success and a promise of recovery, Sara began running weekly live shows, building a rapport with her followers and gaining new customers with every show.

THE SETUP

A casual setting, like hanging out with your girlfriends

“What really works for us is to be our natural, authentic selves”, says Sara as she reflects on what makes their shows so successful. “When our audience tunes in every week from the comfort of their couches, we want them to feel like they’re hanging out and having fun with us. Just like they would with their girlfriends”, she notes. 

Fostering a personal connection is undoubtedly the best ingredient in a live show, and Room101 has certainly mastered the art of building a rapport with their audience. They usually prepare 30-40 products to showcase per show, and then just let the hosts do their magic. “We also make sure to offer special prices and giveaways at each live show, making it irresistible for their followers to join and stay tuned to their live shows”, adds Sara.

With Live Shopping, the “post-event” activities are just as important as the planning and setup. Room 101 ensures that products showcased during live shows are featured on a special section of their website for several days, allowing customers to find them easily and purchase them even after the live event.

RESULTS & ACHIEVEMENTS

From 2,000 SEK to 90,000 SEK in under 14 months

When Room 101 was just a physical store, without a digital presence, their average daily sales were roughly 2,000 SEK - a number that doubled in just an hour when they went live for the first time. 

“Our first few lives drew an audience of roughly 25-30 people. But with time that number became 100, and then 200… growing steadily with each live show”, Sara reveals. She adds, “at one show we sold over 90,000 SEK worth of products in a single Live Shopping event”. 

This was a huge turnaround for the startup, and they eventually decided to close the physical boutique and focus solely on Live Shopping and their webshop. 

While sales are vital for a growing company like Room 101, Live Shopping has also made a huge impact on their social media following. “We run weekly contests during live shopping sessions, and this has helped us boost our Instagram community from just 1-2K followers to over 10,000 followers. In the beginning we had a reach of under 500 persons and now we have a reach of 6-7000 persons.” 

All-in-all Sprii was a game-changer for us. It helped save our business, and took us from being a tiny local shop in Lund to a well-known E-commerce company that sells to customers all over Sweden!
